Founder of CrossFit Buntingford, Mick, has close to a decade of experience after starting his own CrossFit journey in 2011. At first, he’d not thought of CrossFit as anything other than a way to stay healthy and fit whilst having fun, but, with redundancy from his job looking likely down the line, Mick saw the sport as an opportunity for more than a way of staying in shape.
Around his 9-5 work-hours, family, and his own training, he completed CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and CrossFit Level 1 in Olympic Lifting plus NASM level3 Personal Training qualifications as well as developing a part-time Personal Training business. With a growing client base and as a qualified trainer, Mick looked to expand to a full-time CrossFit operation. As luck, fate, or good fortune would have it, in the final week of his 27 years at his previous role, a rental unit became available in Buntingford to begin a CrossFit Affiliate Box.
In the following weeks Mick worked with a number of local tradespeople to ensure a fully functioning space and make the most of the unit that would become CrossFit Buntingford. Together they ensured it is equipped with toilet facilities, air con systems, state of the art sound systems and security equipment – not to mention making it look the part.
Mick also enlisted the help of designer Jemma Thorne to help create our logo. In preparation for opening, she has painted a large rendering of it on the Box Wall, featuring a superb silhouette of a Bunting Bird - the namesake of Buntingford itself - at the centre and striking green details. Despite some logistical hiccups (like equipment arriving too early and Mick having to store it anywhere he could in his house!) progress was still on track. CrossFit Buntingford became ready to unofficially open for a number of successful taster-sessions throughout the end of 2019 in preparation for official opening on 7th January 2020.
How it all works
All of our classes are led by our fully qualified coaches – with classes available for all levels of ability and experience. Staff work on coaching the fundamentals of CrossFit movements so that everyone gets the most out of everything they do throughout every session. All movements are scalable, which means there is a starting point for everyone whatever your level of fitness.
In order to track your progress, we hope that you will feel the benefit of CrossFit itself, but we also use the Boxmate app. Using this, everyone will be able to log their sessions, view progress charts and also find the official CrossFit Buntingford Workout of The Day (WOD).
CrossFit was founded on principles of all-round fitness, functional movement and inclusivity. The programmes on offer at CrossFit Buntingford, will translate into everyday movements such as carrying the shopping or moving heavy boxes.
CrossFit Buntingford strive to make everyone feel comfortable, welcome and included in all sessions meaning that you not only get the best physical results, but a boost in mental and social wellbeing as well.
From our official opening on 7th January 2020, CrossFit Buntingford will operate on the following hours:
Morning Classes: 6:00, 7:00 and 9:30
Evening Classes: 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00
Each class will consist of a Warm-up, a Strength portion and the WOD (Workout Of the Day) and will be led by one of our fully qualified trainers.
Open gym will run from 10:30-17:00 so you can come in to train, practice or do the CrossFit Workout of the Day at your convenience.
Weekend Hours are Saturday 8.00 to 3.00pm with classes running at 9.00, 10.00 and 11.00. Sunday will be open from 8.00 to 12.00 with classes at 9.00 and 10.00
All classes are booked through the TeamUp App which runs alongside Boxmate previously mentioned.
